Bobrauschenbergamerica 2.0
Role
Scenic Designer
Date
April 2021
Location
Nevada Conservatory Theatre
This open-to-reinterpretation script by Charles Mee, originally inspired by the work of Robert Rauschenberg, was reimagined by Director Michael Lugering to reflect the state of America in 2020. The scenic design drew heavily from Rauschenberg’s signature “combine” aesthetic, layering found objects tied to each storyline over a disassembled American flag. A suspended solar system of repurposed junk hung above circular platforms, allowing performers to orbit each other in choreographed distance- reflecting both a key theme of the play and the realities of a socially distanced performance. In lieu of having a live audience the performance was filmed and streamed; some behind-the-scenes content documents the filming process and how the piece was adapted for remote viewing.
